Areas of Practice

Articulation and Phonological disorders:

Children can have trouble saying sounds clearly. It may be hard to understand what they say.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. While dyslexia can make reading more difficult, with the right instruction, almost all individuals with dyslexia can learn to read.

Feeding

Children have to learn the feeding process. They start by sucking and learn how to eat solid foods and drink from a cup. Children will have some trouble at first. Drinks may spill from their mouths. They may push food back out or gag on new foods. This is normal and should go away. A child with a feeding disorder will keep having trouble. Some children will eat only certain foods, or they may take a long time to eat. These children may also have a feeding disorder. Feeding disorders may occur in infants during breast feeding as well.

Early Intervention

EI’s purpose is to identify and evaluate as early as possible those infants and toddlers whose healthy development is compromised and provide an appropriate intervention program to improve child and family development.

  • Feeding and Swallowing disorders

  • Apraxia/Dyspraxia

  • Articulation disorders

  • Receptive and expressive language disorders

  • Developmental delays

  • Autism/pervasive development disorder (PDD)

  • Oral motor weakness

  • Sensory Integration disorders

Language Disorders

Language is the words we use to share ideas and get what we want. A person with a language disorder may have problems:

  • understanding

  • talking

  • reading

  • writing

Tutoring: reading

We offer a Structured Literacy Program, which prepares students to decode words in an explicit and systematic manner. This approach not only helps students with dyslexia, but there is substantial evidence that it is more effective for all readers. It follows the Orton- Gillingham methodology.
